Gary Kiebzak PhD.
Gary M. Kiebzak, Ph.D. has been interested in gerontology and the biology of aging since his fellowship at the Gerontology Research Center, the intramural branch of the National Institute of Aging, National Institutes of Health in Baltimore, MD. Among his accomplishments during a 25-year career as a research scientist, was the finding that men with osteoporosis are generally not adequately treated, that hip fractures in osteoporotic men are followed by substantial morbidity and mortality, and that most elderly patients in hospital rehabilitation units have inadequate body stores of vitamin D. As a member of three international panels of experts in bone densitometry, he helped write guidelines accepted by doctors around the world for using bone mineral density scans to diagnose and monitor osteoporosis.
Gary is now applying his background and knowledge of aging issues to help improve elder care services in general. He lives in Houston, and enjoys taking advantage of the great saltwater fishing opportunities on the Texas coast.
