CarePatrol Is Here To Help Alleviate Caregiver Stress

Did you know that an estimated 66% of caregivers are female?
According to the Family Caregiver Alliance, the average caregiver is a 49-year-old woman who works outside the home and provides up to 20 hours each week of unpaid caregiving to a loved one. Female caregivers provide as much as 50% more time providing care than male counterparts.
Caregiver burnout is prevalent among all unpaid caregivers and the physical toll is real. 25% of women caregivers have reported having a health concern as a result of their caregiving activities. These include elevated blood pressure, a greater risk of developing hypertension, poor immune function, and slower wound healing. Women who gave care to a loved one for over 9 hours or more each week increased their risk of developing coronary heart disease twofold.
A national study by MetLife, the National Alliance for Caregiving, and the National Center on Women and Aging dove into the ways that women juggle work responsibilities and caring for a loved one, revealing that:
- 22% took a leave of absence from their job
- 33% of working women decreased work hours to accommodate caregiving tasks
- 20% switched from full-time to part-time jobs
- 29% were not able to accept a job promotion, assignment, or training
- 16% quit their jobs
