Will Mom Be Safe in Assisted Living?

By CarePatrol of Chicago Northshore

Assisted Living is a unique blend of health care and hospitality.  Each assisted living community brings its own approach to these services to create a blended living experience that serves the needs and wants of seniors. Seniors are now emerging from the virus scare with a different set of expectations relating to both care and hospitality.

The main concern we hear in our CarePatrol office is “Will my Mom be safe?” The second question we get is “Should I keep Dad at home?”

Being the primary caregiver for a senior presents challenges:

Is your home accessible? Are you properly trained? Do you understand the commitment a 24-hour caregiver places on your family and social life?  Can you safely transfer an adult from a bed or toilet?  Will your loved one be happy in your home? Have you ever wiped your Mom’s butt? Will your family’s increased interaction with the outside world place your loved one at greater risk of contracting COVID-19?

Community life raises different questions: Is staff trained properly on the use of PPE? Is there a quarantine procedure for move-ins? Will residents and staff be tested for COVID-19? Will Mom eat by herself? How are they handling social activities?

Answering these and many other questions are what Care Patrol is all about.  Whether in-home or at an assisted living community, we will help you find a solution to keep your loved one safe.  If you need help finding care for a senior, please give me a call at 847-653-1212.  We are a free service and are here to help.
